Exercise and Diets~

Want to lose weight?

Most people tried in vain to lose some weight. Some tried dieting by reducing food intake. I know people that was paranoid of eating things like buiscuits, chocs and fatty stuff just because they are afraid that they'll be fat. For myself, i always tried to avoid fatty and oily foods. Not because i wanted to lose weight, but because i just don't like it.. Some tried rigorous exercise. I am slightly overweight, i admit that, based on my calculated BMI, i am on the border between accepted weight and overweight. However, recently, there is a little urge in me to start regular exercise. The last time i did good exercise is before my AS paper last year. I somehow lost my momentum and then everything went downhill. I have palpitations the other day when i played frisbee with two friends. It was quite bad that i scared byself with it.. I have become unfit..

After the incident, i realised that if i don't do something about it, my health will deteriorate in the future. I think i need to get a new pair of shoes for running. The shoes i have now isn't comfortable enough to run with.. stupid Bata shoes.. lol! I guess i should go back to Fila shoes i had last time, that was quite comfortable..

For those who are using diet programs over the market to try to lose weight, just an information, there is no proof that they will work. Sure you'll lose some weight initially after you follow them due to starvation of your system, but eventually you WILL regain the weight, possibly even more than the weight that you began with.

Enter the starvation response. The starvation response is a response of the body to starvation. As fat of the body is burnt away, our body goes into panic mode and tries to retain fat. So weight loss becomes increasingly difficult as more weight is lost. Insulin levels will also rise to help deposit fat into our bodies. The starvation response will hence, increase our weight. Most people that tried vigorous diet would feel discouraged because they will have no progress after losing some weight. They get blamed because people think that they are not strict and discliplined enough to keep up to their diets. It is quite impossible to oversome the starvation response. In the end, one will not be able to keep up with their diets and their weight will shoot up. So those that tried in vain, don't give up or blame yourself. Instead, there is a trick to suppresing the starvation response.. More to come soon..

Sirens outside my window~

Posted by Way Siong | | Posted On Sunday 9 October 2005 at 12:38 am

Almost every other day, i'll hear a siren outside my room. Its a sound that had been pretty much familiar to me since the days in eton hall. Its the sounds of an ambulance racing towards Alexandra hospital. I haven't heard it at all after i moved to Ridzuan condo, mainly because its located away from the main road. The sirens i hear here, are sounds of ambulances racing towards another hospital; the Prince of Wales hospital, in short: POW hospital. Everytime i heard the sound, it will strike me that someone's life is in danger. I had this little desire to hitch a ride in one of the ambulances as an intern, and experience the challenges of the paramedics. Not many people appriciate their efforts, and not many people wants to be one of them. A doctor told me once that its a very hectic job, which of course it true, considering the need for them to reach the destination quickly and perform their job efficiently. They are the ones that would determine whether someone would be saved or not.

Of course, the sirens can also come from the police. There was once i witnessed a hot persuit right outside my window. 5 police cars chasing 1 vehicle. According to my friend, these persuits occur rather frequently, and he was quite surprised that i haven't seen one. Everytime i see a police car with sirens blazing and racing down the street, i wonder what happened at his destination. Someone might be in danger, panicking or robbed. Someone might be already dead somewhere, and things like that.. Of course, non of us really do care anyway...

Holidays had ended, Spring session!

Posted by Way Siong | | Posted On Wednesday 5 October 2005 at 10:24 am

Well, spring is here... and 2 weeks worth of holidays are gone..

Contrary to popular likings, i come to hate spring.. Why you ask? Its because of the bugs... Currently NSW is plagued by moths.. and they are EVERYWHERE!!! in the rooms, the hallway, the corridors, and yes.. peeking at you in the toilet as well.. urgh.. haha! I guess its not as bad as the moths we saw at Genting the other time, which not only looks scary, its huge as well..

It is however easier to wake up in the mornings now.. mainly because it is warmer and the sunlight at 6 a.m is almost as bright as the afternoon.. Our lecturers seemed to take that to their advantage.. now we have a few 8.a.m lectures.. designed to sleep us in lectures..

To sum up the holidays, basically it involves lots of sleeping time.. :) hehe! Went to the city a few times, to walk around and to buy some stuff.. Supposed to clear my room in the holidays as well.. it was clean and nice for a few days.. but ended up as messy as before in the end.. I'm gonna do the clearing all over again.. haha~! Currently looking for a nice poster to place in my wall, so that it won't look as bare..

Went to Canberra again at the last two days of the holidays.. It was a 2 day 1 night trip with the people from Malaysia Hall. There's quite a number of us.. totalling to maybe about 25 probably.. we have around 5 cars, 4 of them are vans that accomodate around 7 persons. The trip took around 3 hours. We stayed over at some friends' places, all apartments. Petronas scholars are so pampered! haha!

had a dinner at the consulate the first night we were there, it was quite nice, albeit a little awkward for me coz i was sitting at the table with the Datuk.. Pretty tense coz i did not want to say the wrong things at the wrong time.. :P If i was my usual self, i would probably be kicked out, lol!

We visited the usual tourist destinations such as the war memorial, the parliment house, and some other places. On the second day we visited the floriade. The floriade is a flower festival held annually at canberra during spring. Its full of nice looking flowers, most of them being my gf's favourite, hehe! However, there's one colour that seemed not to exist.. there's no light blue tulips are they? hrmm.. After that we went to somewhere where u have to pay $10 to enter. We choosed not to enter at that time because of the price.. so a few of us diverged from the main group while they tired it. Its basically filled with miniature models of houses and things.. its quite cool actually, i'll try to post some pictures when i can. The rest of us took a car and went sight seeing around the area. And guess what, i saw some kangaroos! hehe! i was pretty excited, coz it was my first time.. :) They were like cats.. lazing around in the field.. there was quite a number of them.. totalling to maybe 20 or more of them.. Its so cool! :P

I guess that's all for now.. i'm a little bit tired.. have a prac and a scenario group session after this... i NEED SOME SLEEP! haha! :)
